The slow moving mist creates a tense feeling, obscuring everything in the frame. Its thickness looms in the air as it reveals and hides things. Letters of the title are composed in scenes to give a foreboding effect. It creates a sense of dread that is hovering over empty cities all over the world from New York to Tokyo to London. When there are people they are alone. The sequence is an eerie and daunting environment capturing the ways society is clinging onto humanity.
I was in charge of some of the shot designs and animation also composited some of the shots in Nuke.

A few of the designs that I contributed. I was aiming to quickly sketch out simple scenes that not only show the characteristics of light, but also show the progression of the light creeping from the streets to the inside of suburban houses.
Here is a CG asset texturing/render test I did. All textures were done in Substance Painter.
Here's a cloth design/Simulation I did for one of the running character in the Tokyo city shot.
